Performing live at The Moonraker - a cosy underground venue underneath the Lamb and Lion in Westcliff, two of Southend's finest live bands on the same bill for the first time!

David Woodcock and the Fixtures are fresh from a live session on 6 Music with Riley and Coe and as their live performances gain momentum, expect to be blown away by this 'English Diamond' and his band. David's songs are steeped in the classic British song writing tradition epitomised by the likes of Ray Davies, Steve Harley and Ian Dury. Lyrics filled with humour, pathos, wry observations and a riotous energy – in David’s music there’s certainly an air of Ian Hunter rockin’ it up with Mott The Hoople, Vivian Stanshall as a drunken Harry Nilsson, Pete Doherty with a clean bill of health, Richard Hawley at his poignant best or Damon Albarn in young, cocky scamp mode. Live, David works the room to the max. He gives us tales of lost love, lust, jealousy, memories, regrets and of living life to its messy limits and all the consequences that entails.

Stern John are socially conscious Anglo-Irish folk punks. They play epic songs, mostly about singer and bass player Paul Offord and drummer Morgan Condon’s home town of Southend, melding close harmonies and folky soul with alt-rock and howling punk.

The other member of the three-piece is Paul’s big cousin Craig Brown, from Dublin, who gives the band a unique woody sound that shifts up to fuzzy loud by playing electric ukulele through a dirty Fender amp.

There’s Pogues and Fairport Convention in there, but Kyuss, Dr Feelgood, and Wreckless Eric get a look in too. Every gig explodes with righteousness, maximum energy, and fun. Head and heart music to dance and sing along to.
